# How to Pitch General Catalyst

May 4, 2026 · Updated Oct 29, 2026 · By [Josh May](https://www.pitchprotocol.vc/team.html#josh-may)

How General Catalyst invests from seed to growth, why it calls seed its core, and the partner emails it publishes.

**TL;DR:** General Catalyst invests from seed through growth, builds companies from scratch and offers non-equity growth financing, with $45.5B in regulatory assets. It calls seed the core of the firm and led seeds for Tsuga, Mira, Lucis and Baba in 2025 and 2026. It describes itself as a global investment and transformation company focused on resilience and applied AI. There is no pitch form, but most investor profiles publish a direct email.

General Catalyst has backed Airbnb, Snap, Stripe, Warby Parker, HubSpot, Gusto and Canva. Over the last several years it has grown from a traditional venture firm into what it calls a global investment and transformation company focused on resilience and applied AI: seed and growth investing, company creation, a health system it owns, and $45.5 billion in regulatory assets.

Understanding what GC has become is essential before you pitch.

## What General Catalyst Is Today

GC has evolved significantly. Under Hemant Taneja's leadership, they've moved toward:

- **Health Assurance**: rebuilding healthcare, led by Holly Maloney, including HATCo, which acquired the Summa Health system
- **Applied AI and resilience**: its current self-description; its earlier framework was Responsible Innovation, through Responsible Innovation Labs
- **Multi-stage**: seed through growth, plus company creation and a Customer Value Fund that finances customer acquisition without equity
- **Global**: the US, Europe (London and Berlin, after the La Famiglia merger) and India and the Middle East, with a $5 billion commitment to India announced in February 2026

This breadth means you need to identify the right partner more carefully than at most funds. GC's enterprise and AI partners have different mandates than their healthcare partners.

## What GC Looks For

**1. Transformation, not a better workflow.** GC's own language is transformation, resilience and applied AI. It even runs AI-enabled roll-ups that bring AI into existing services businesses, so show how your company changes the way an industry operates.

**2. A long time horizon.** GC says it has to go beyond the traditional definition of venture capital, and it owns and operates businesses as well as investing in them. Founders thinking in decades fit the firm it has become.

**3. Applied AI.** Applied AI is central to how GC describes itself, and several of its 2025 and 2026 seeds are AI companies (Tsuga, Bolna, Stilla).

**4. Responsible innovation.** GC helped launch Responsible Innovation Labs in 2022 and 2023, a founder group focused on building responsibly. It publishes no current diligence rule on AI governance.

**5. A plan for the next lead.** For companies it seeds, GC aims to take its pro rata in the next round rather than lead it, so plan your Series A lead separately.

## What GC Needs to See

- **Seed:** thesis and team. Pre-revenue is fine: GC's seed lead often backs founders before the company is incorporated
- **Series A:** no published ARR bar; the Series A rounds GC led in 2026 were $35 million (Yuzu Health) and $49 million (Arca)
- **Healthcare:** no published requirement; the Health Assurance team, led by Holly Maloney, is the place to start

## How to Get a GC Meeting

- **Portfolio company intros** — Airbnb, Snap, HubSpot, Canva alumni are natural channels
- **Health Assurance**: GC's health system partnerships and its own Summa Health system make it a strong fit for healthcare founders, though they are not an intake route
- **A partner's email**: GC has no pitch form, but most investor profiles publish a direct email; Yuri Sagalov, who leads seed, is a good start for very early companies
- **Accelerator networks**: GC's seed lead was a Y Combinator partner from 2014 to 2019

## What Gets You Passed

- **Incremental features in large markets** — GC wants transformation
- **AI with nothing underneath it**: GC's AI bets change how a business operates, not just its interface

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does GC still invest at seed?

Yes. GC calls seed the core of the firm, leads seed rounds (Tsuga, Mira, Lucis and Baba in 2025 and 2026) and has made 48 seed investments in Europe alone since merging with La Famiglia. For companies it seeds, it aims to take its pro rata in the next round rather than lead it.

### What is GC's check size?

General Catalyst publishes no check sizes. Rounds it led include Arca's $49 million Series A and Yuzu Health's $35 million Series A in 2026, and Parloa's $350 million Series D; those are whole rounds.

### Is GC a good fit for healthcare companies?

Yes. GC's Health Assurance team, led by Holly Maloney, invests in healthcare, and GC owns and operates the Summa Health system through HATCo.

### How big is General Catalyst's latest fund?

Fund XII, about $8 billion (October 2024): about $4.5 billion for core venture funds from seed to growth, about $1.5 billion for company creation and about $2 billion in separately managed accounts. A Fund XIII filed with the SEC in March 2026, size not disclosed.

### Does General Catalyst have a pitch form?

No. Its Seed page points founders to the contact page, and most investor profiles publish a direct email address.

### Can I apply through Pitch Protocol instead of waiting for a warm intro?

Pitch Protocol is not a back door into General Catalyst, and we do not share which funds review an application before it is in. What it does: applying is free, your own AI agent (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any agent that can read a URL) submits one application in about ten minutes with no web form, and the funds in our network whose thesis matches reach out to you directly. Founders anywhere can apply. Keep working your warm path to General Catalyst in parallel. [Apply to the First 100 Founders Cohort →](https://www.pitchprotocol.vc)
